Apple, stop over-charging for memory

Posted by & filed under Apple.

This interesting article has cropped up on CNET about Apple’s desire to over-charge for memory, particularly on iDevices. Its opening salvo is a good example of this issue, where everyone using iOS for a long time knows 16GB is fast becoming a defacto waste of time, because retina-ready apps take up far more space. So… Read more »

Apple event to be streamed via Apple TV

Apple rarely stream their keynotes. It’s a rare event, and usually involves a tie-in to their ecosystem (e.g. you must use Safari on OSX to view the keynote, etc.). Apple have confirmed that their event later today will be streamed for those who own an Apple TV. The confirmation comes in the form of an… Read more »

iPad + Lineode

A year after starting an experiment to ditch his MacBook and work exclusively from an iPad, we have a really revealing and interesting look at how life is in the mobile lane from Mark O’Connor. It’s a very interesting look at how the iPad, once thought as a consuming device, can be used as a… Read more »

Of course on a day when I have a mini rant (see what I did there?), Gruber goes and posts his thoughts. But in much better detail.

Sources say there’s a new iPad

Posted by & filed under Apple.

Almost every single day I see reports from various “sources” showing the purported iPad mini (nano?) design. Different bezels, different thickness, but all with a 7-inch screen. The screen size, if this device is going to come out, has to be in proportion to the current iPad so that it simply scales apps, rather than… Read more »

Bob Mansfield retires

After overseeing the Mac Hardware team, overseeing the development of the iPod from a niche product into the portable music player of the last decade, and two little products we call the iPad and iPhone, Bob Mansfield has retired from Apple. Thanks, Bob. For everything. (via James Foley)

iPad

I just did a presentation to solicitors on integrating the iPad to a post-grad diploma course. Watching older, non technical people wrap their heads around the iPad in less than an hour is a fine demonstration of how iOS “just works”. Explaining iCloud with a live example makes everything fit into place beautifully. Proof, if… Read more »
