You are the product

Posted by & filed under Facebook, Social Media.

I’m ruining this blog post by Derek Powazek by quoting the end, but… we should all stop saying, “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product,” because it doesn’t really mean anything, it excuses the behavior of bad companies, and it makes you sound kind of like a stoner looking at their… Read more »

EyeEm

Posted by & filed under Apps.

I’ve used the photo-sharing service eyeem before. However I never made a conscious effort to “switch” to it from Instagram. One reason I’ve used Instagram from it’s inception (nearly) is that it makes sharing snapshots of life easy. Taking a few photos and sharing them out on Twitter, Facebook, etc. easily is a huge driver… Read more »

Instagram’s removing of live filters

Posted by & filed under Apps, Facebook.

From Daring Fireball… So, for whatever reason, Instagram feels that live filters aren’t a part of the best experience it can provide. And it appears that they’ll be ‘phased out’ in future versions of the app I’m not sure what they’re doing. Gruber reckons the issue is that as Instagram moves into new platforms it… Read more »

Why Instagram feels good

Instagram’s simplicity overshadows the fact that it always feels fast (hence, responsive) and natural to use. Now we know why… There are 3 simple “white lies” behind the service, including the much-heralded point at which Instagram uploads images. Apple SVP for marketing Phil Schiller made some oddly disparaging remarks about Instagram since it’s sale. His remarks came in the form of a twitter DM (which I think is disgusting to share, given the private nature of such a conversation) but in a follow-up email he clarified his remarks, which were to say that… Read more »

Instagram wanted $2b

Posted by & filed under Facebook.

Instagram’s sale to Facebook for $1 billion is still a huge talking point in the industry. As it turns out, Systrom wanted $2 billion for it, knowing how much it was worth to Facebook (Zuck had approached them the previous summer). If true, it means Zuckerberg managed to wipe $1 billion off the asking price… Read more »

InstaBook

Instagram (a favoured app of mine) has just been acquired by Facebook for $1 billion. The most interesting trend I’ve noticed on twitter is people posting ways to export photos & delete accounts. Most certainly that’s a signal that the honeymoon period for Facebook is over. One comment said “it’s like a small town being… Read more »

Hipstagram

Looks like the first big partnership for Instagram is coming, with Hipstamatic photos going directly to the photo sharing site via API. Hipstamatic is set to unveil a partnership with Instagram that allows photos taken on the camera app, which enables users to snap professional-looking pictures with stylized films and vintage-era lenses, to be ported… Read more »

spots.io

I love Instagram, a lot. As such, spots.io is right up my alley. It uses instagram’s API to find photos from specific locations. Extra bonus points go to it for using 3FE and github as examples in the introductory video.
