Code within a code? Someone’s coded a game with the tools provided in the iPad app Codea, and done a decent job of it, too!
Cargo-Bot was developed by Rui Viana and Two Lives Left over the course of 4 months, with Fred Bogg handling the music engine programming using the Codea API. The project originated in the Codea user forums, where Viana had premiered his game ‘Robot Arm’, coded using the tool.
It’s very cool, but the claims that this is the future of programming are a bit exaggerated. This is using LUA, not objective-C meaning there’s very little control given to the developers. It’s a cool technical demonstration, but the iPad is better suited as a tool to aide programmers with reference tools. That’s not to say that the iPad can be a great device to program on, but I can’t see it being a revolution for programmers the same way it has been for readers, etc.
