Apple will be sending some of the security engineers for iOS platform to Black Hat – a hacker/security conference. This is the first time that this has happened, but notably not the first time this was meant to happen. Last time, 2008, marketing kaiboshed the affair.

This time, though, marketing is on board and Apple will be discussing iOS as a platform and what they do for security. Of course, the fun bit will be the Q&A where, undoubtedly, someone will ask about jailbreaking and the future of Mac OS security as the system gets bigger.

The other significant point here is that under Tim Cook, Apple is acknowledging its size – and its flaws. Moreover, it’s acknowledging the fact that it has talented men and women who can speak on behalf of the company at industry (and non-industry) events without tripping up and ruining anything.
