HTML5 idiots

Posted by & filed under Internet.

Since the departure of the main reasons to read TechCrunch, I haven’t found much reason to revisit the site or have it in my RSS feed. It used to be about startups, cool technology and rustling important people’s feathers. Now it’s degenerated into articles like this one about HTML5. Normally this wouldn’t flag for me,… Read more »

Google+ growing

Posted by & filed under Facebook, Google.

Google+ is my darling love in social media these days, much like Twitter was. I want to be on it, much like I want to be on Twitter. My relationship with Facebook “is complicated”. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I think it’s doing the wrong thing and more often than not I feel like I… Read more »

More SOPA

Posted by & filed under Internet.

CNet is running a huge story about SOPA today with a quote from Sergey Brin noting that SOPA “would put us on a par with the most oppressive nations in the world.” Something that’s been said many times before. Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, Twitter co-founders Jack Dorsey & Biz Stone and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman… Read more »

Tom’s Hardware on SOPA

Imagine a user posts a video clip to the Tom’s Community of a step-by-step guide on how to set up water cooling on an overclocked i7 CPU. Playing in the background behind the voiceover is “Derezzed” by Daft Punk. The studio representing Daft Punk could issue a complaint, without being required to notify us or… Read more »

I got an email from someone I know asking if I can confirm/deny some rumours surrounding the next iPad, which is hinted to be launched in January for a possible March release. Everything about the launch sounds fine, as it is traditional for Apple to launch products in January and release them a few weeks… Read more »

I’ve been using a lot of Windows and Ubuntu lately and while Ubuntu is primarily used through a VM, it still stands to point that there are a lot of things in both operating systems that are useful. While neither would ever replace OS X in terms of usability and day-to-day ease, both do things… Read more »

SOPA

“It’s very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.” That quote comes from the recent CEO of GoDaddy, who clearly doesn’t get it. The community is everyone. Everyone will never, ever support internet… Read more »

Social face recognition

Posted by & filed under Facebook, Google.

Facebook is always in trouble over new features. Mainly because it rolls out new products & features without telling anyone, and lots of people feel as though their privacy has been infringed (often this is fair, though). Google+ has rolled out a feature that Facebook is treading very carefully around – face recognition. Instead of… Read more »

PC build

While my Macbook Pro (2011) with its i7 and 6750M GPU is a great companion for Bootcamp & gaming, it’s time I stepped up and bought an actual PC for the first time in at least 3 years. Battlefield 3 runs fine on my Mac but I have to turn down some settings to make… Read more »

Microsoft not going to CES again

Posted by & filed under Microsoft.

Microsoft released a press statement noting the fact that, from 2013 on, the company will not go to CES with a keynote or booth. The reasons they cite are that the January show does not coincide with their typical product launch schedule. This is very much the same tone Apple took a few years ago… Read more »
